Writers for Democratic Action Upcoming Zoom Meeting for Wisconsin
Working to keep our freedoms during the Trump Administration
Verbatim from their email announcement:
Dear Wisconsin WDA Members:
Had enough yet? Join us March 19; 7pm CDT— for a special zoom on Unfreedom.
After the onslaughts on democracy, truth, the First Amendment and so much more in the last seven weeks, we need a meeting devoted to action. We need to respond as writers to a narrative which is false, and to a propaganda campaign undermining our nation. And we want to offer you ways to do that. Wisconsin, as we know, is on the frontline of this battle, hosting the first election in the country (April 1) since the inauguration of Donald Trump. We want to offer you practical strategies as we keep you informed. How do we as writers deepen and CONNECT the stories of what’s happening to our members, and to truth? Truth is challenged by propaganda in this Great Unraveling.
You are invited to a Zoom meeting hosted by Jacki Lyden, Wisconsin State chair, W-WDA at 7pm CDT on March 19th. We’ll hear from strategist John Norcross (Oconomowoc). We’ll also be joined by Tasslyn Magnusson, of PEN America’s Freedom to Read and United Against Book Bans, to give us the state of play in Wisconsin and enlist our pushback.
At this week’s national WDA steering committee meeting, we discussed propaganda and how it works. We discussed building a national archive of the recently fired workers’ testimonies, which we here in Wisconsin are invited to help build.
Also, WDA has a new Substack (https://www.writersfordemocraticaction.org/substack), to which I encourage you to contribute – it already has over 3k subscribers. Further – we have new social media strategies, a new podcast, upcoming Democracy Book Clubs on immigration propaganda, Joe McCarthy, and more. Remember -- truth is challenged by propaganda in the Great Unraveling.
So, please accept our Zoom invitation and let us know that you are coming. We’ll send you the link prior to the meeting. Together, we can get loud and be a force for good. But we can’t do it without you.
Thank you for being a member of WDA!
